FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS //

WHAT DOES A VOLUNTEER AT CONVICTION GROUP DO?
There are a number of opportunities to get involved from working with student to planning events. Generally our volunteers start out by volunteering at The Young Men’s Health Forums as either part of the Facilitation, Events or Media Teams.

Facilitation: In between speaking sessions students complete small discussion groups. Each group discussion is led by one of our facilitators who help students to discuss and share perspectives.

Events: At each forum, there are over 300 attendees. The events team is responsible for ensuring that the day runs smoothly from sorting students into groups to managing the speakers.

Media: Our forums are complete events so we have people dedicated to photography, social media, sound and lighting. If you have previous experience in any of these areas please let us know.

Have any other skills or experience that you would like to bring to the organisation? Let us know by asking a question below.
HOW MUCH TIME IS USUALLY REQUIRED TO VOLUNTEER?
All our volunteers are required to attend an Induction (2.5 hours) to start volunteering with us. The Young Men’s Health Forums is the longest commitment, which takes a full day (7am - 5pm). In order to volunteer at a Forum you must also attend a Forum Briefing leading up to the Forum (2.5 hours).
WILL I NEED TO TAKE TIME OFF WORK/STUDY TO VOLUNTEER?
Our Young Men’s Health Forums are run on weekdays, as we work with students that are sent by their schools. If you require time off work or study, we are able to provide you with a letter explaining your application to take time off. Our Inductions and Forum Briefings are usually held on week nights (6:30pm onwards).
HOW OFTEN DO VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES AND EVENTS HAPPEN?
Our Inductions (first time volunteers only), Forum Briefings and Young Men’s Health Forum are held three times a year. Volunteers will be notified if there are other opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE OR QUALIFICATION IN ORDER TO VOLUNTEER?
Volunteers do not need to have any specific experience or qualifications, as they are provided the necessary training in the lead-up to events. However, you must be eligible to receive a Working With Children Check (WWCC) number as volunteers work closely with students under the age of 18. Apply for a WWCC by visiting https://wwccheck.ccyp.nsw.gov.au/Applicants/Application.
